I love Scottsdale for its warm weather, beautiful landscape, and plentiful upscale resorts. If you’re like me and ready for an escape to the Arizona desert, then the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale might be the oasis you are seeking. This 27-acre resort is situated against beautiful mountains with towering palm trees. The property is expansive and beautifully landscaped. Sometimes, I enjoy just walking around and taking in the property with a cool drink in hand.
I’ve visited this resort twice. Once with my family, and another time with a girlfriend to enjoy some serious spa time. With that said, the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale can satisfy and entertain families, couples, and groups. During our family trip, we loved playing in the water, riding bikes, and enjoying casual family time. With my girlfriend, I loved getting pampered at the spa and treating ourselves to dinner and drinks. There is truly something here for every type of traveler.
The Pool Complex
If you’re traveling with the kids, the pool complex will be a hit. The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale boasts a 2.5-acre water playground, with multiple pools, a sandy beach, and an exciting three-story waterslide. Riders for this attraction need to be 42 inches or taller. But don’t worry if you’re kids aren’t tall enough, they’ll still love the fountains, splash pads, and sandy entrance to the pool! And if you want to escape from all the activity — there’s an adults-only pool with its own bar that offers parents some time to just read and relax in peace.
There’s also poolside service, which I’ve always taken full advantage of. The jalapeno margaritas are one of my favorites! Plenty of family cabanas circle the main pool and waterslide area if additional shade or privacy is needed. I have always been able to find seating and shade here, so I don’t think renting cabanas is necessary unless you have a large group. This also gives you the option to try multiple locations around the pool. When I visited with Carter, we spent most of our time chasing him around. He was obsessed with the splash pads and eating popsicles in the shade.
During the day you’ll see large groups playing water volleyball, kids building sandcastles, and sunbathers enjoying the Arizona sunshine! On both visits the weather was in the high 90’s, which makes jumping in the pool feel so amazing!
Onsite Dining
On both my visits, I only left the property once, which was to ride the complimentary bikes around the area. A little bonus tip: bike trailers and helmets are also available; in case you want to bring the entire family for a ride.
There are eight on-site restaurant and bar options, so you won’t get bored of eating here.
Breakfast options include room service, the Canyon Market, or try SWB for a sit-down meal to start your day. Because the weather is so incredible especially in the morning, I like to grab a coffee and pastry at the Canyon Market, which serves Starbucks, and find seating outside in the courtyard. I love having my usual vanilla almond milk latte, but with a much better view. From the main courtyard, you take in green grass, palm trees, and a pool. Further out, behind the adults’ pool is the golf course and mountains. So beautiful!
In my opinion, lunch here is best served poolside or at the H2Oasis. They had a good selection of lunch options and drinks. Just be sure to get the jalapeno margarita! Eating lunch at the pool maximizes your sun and playtime, but if you want a sit-down lunch, then SWB has great options. Family Vacay favorites are cauliflower cilantro hummus, guacamole, and Beyond Burger, with fries, of course.
Dinner at Alto Ristorante e bar was wonderful! It serves Italian food and has a great wine selection. The service was excellent, and attentive to little ones as well. They adjusted some of the menu items so that Carter could have his ideal meal – shrimp and noodles. Make sure to enjoy a meal, evening snack, or cocktail at the Center Stage Bar. Comfortable outside seating and firepits throughout create the right atmosphere for a fun evening. There is always entertaining live music on the weekends, which only enhances the lively energy. You can view their website to see the entertainment schedule.
Additionally, if you’re in the mood for sushi but want to remain outside, you can order from the Noh menu and enjoy their fresh items in the courtyard. Edamame and vegetable rolls for the win! For most of our meals, we chose to eat outside because of the incredible views and landscaping. There’s so much open green space at this hotel, which makes it nice for families. As parents dine, they still can watch their kids while they play in the grass. There were so many kids running around, playing games, and viewing the many fountains all within sight of their parents.
Additional Onsite Activities
There is plenty to do in and out of the water. Next to the pool area are activities, yard games, rock climbing, putting green, and a playground for little ones. We enjoyed playing in the small playground and an intense game of corn hole!
The Hyatt Regency also has a world-class spa — Spa Avania — which feels like a sanctuary. If you have time, I highly recommended visiting. There are 19 treatment rooms, a pool, sauna, steam room, hot and cold plunges, and a Himalayan Salt Room. Click here to read about my day of relaxation at Spa Avania.
And if you’re into golf take advantage of the resort’s top-rated course, which is only available to And, if you’re into golf, take advantage of the resort’s top-rated course, which is only available to members and hotel guests. If golf isn’t your thing, there are also tennis courts and plenty of other activities to keep the whole family happy during your visit.
Room Options
There are three types of lodging options at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale: rooms, suites, and casitas, which all offer modern decor and balconies. When I visited with my family, we originally reserved a standard room with a view of the property. However, upon arrival we quickly determined that we needed a little more space to spread out, so we upgraded to a casita.
The standard rooms are basic, clean rooms with all the necessities, such as toiletries, a coffee pot, and an ice bucket, to name a few. The casitas offer a separate living space from the bedroom, kitchen, and rooftop balcony. They are situated away from the main building and next to the water. Because we were only visiting for a couple of days, we didn’t want to take time to grocery shop, so the kitchen went underutilized. But the refrigerator, glassware, and extra space came in handy.
The nightly rates at this property are very comparable to the other 4+ star hotels in Scottsdale. On my last visit during April, the rates ranged between $700 and $800 per night.
