Looking for a family-friendly spring break destination in the U.S.? With all the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions vacationing domestically is preferred by many families. Spring break is a time to unwind and have some fun, so why create unnecessary stress trying to plan something that requires additional details and hurdles.
The six destinations on this list are all family friendly, located in the western half of the country, easy to plan and access, and Family Vacay favorites! Each location offers something different – but what they all have in common is a guaranteed amazing time building memories with your family!
(1) Maui
Incredible beaches, warm weather, and guaranteed family fun! Maui delivers everything for a fantastic and memorable family vacay. When visiting Maui, we love staying on Ka’anapali Beach because you have easy access to shopping, dining, and fun activities like surfing lessons, luaus, and so much more! We have stayed the last several times at Honua Kai Resort which is a condo-style resort perfect for families. Each unit has a washer, dryer, and fully stocked kitchen. To read more about our experience at Honua Kai, read this post.
*Make sure to check all the COVID-19 guidelines for Hawaii/Maui before booking your reservations. You can visit the State of Hawaii’s COVI-19 Portal for more information on testing and vaccination requirements.
(2) Kauai
Kauai is more rural and isolated than Maui, which also can make it appealing to families that want more of an “off the grid” type of vacation. Kauai is perfect for relaxing and enjoying beach time with your family. Although there isn’t an abundance of shopping or restaurants, there is plenty of opportunities for adventure — which are perfect for older kids. We have stayed at several different resorts while visiting Kauai, and you can read more about them here.

(3) Scottsdale
If you’re looking for an easy to get to destination, then Scottsdale might be perfect! This city is full of incredible resorts with something for everyone in your family. Visiting during spring break is also the perfect time because the weather will be warm, but not to the scorching levels it can reach into the summer months. Two of our favorite resorts in Scottsdale are the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale and the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Both are family-friendly luxury resorts with large pool complexes, fine dining, golf, and tons of activities. Both of these resorts are wonderful! Click here to read more about our recent visit to the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess or the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale.
(4) Oregon Coast
If you’re wanting to escape from warm weather and seeking cool ocean air — then you need to consider the Oregon Coast. Something about the ocean breeze here is so relaxing and healing! There are so many amazing beaches, sites to see, and adventures to be had along the Oregon Coast! If you’re looking for lodging, then you need to check out the Salishan Coastal Lodge. We have visited the Salishan 3 times and can’t wait to go back! It’s situated in a lush forest and across from the most beautiful, and quiet beach! It offers hiking, swimming, golf, tennis, and delicious food and drinks! Bonus: this resort is 100% dog friendly! So, bring your pup with you! Read about our most recent visit to Salishan!
(5) San Diego
This city offers a little of everything! Beaches, theme parks, zoos, and so many activities for the entire family. We were in San Diego over the last 4th of July weekend, we visited Legoland and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Legoland is perfect for younger kids, and all you need is one day at this park, and you’ll be able to see and do everything. We chose the Safari Park because it was close to Legoland and wanted more of a non-zoo experience…. which this park delivered. However, if you have little ones, there is a lot of walking here — so you might want a wagon or stroller. If you want to read about our weekend in San Diego, click here.
(6) Disneyland
Disney is truly magical! And Disneyland is easy to get to and navigate – which makes even more enjoyable. With two parks (California Adventure and Disneyland) to enjoy you won’t run out of activities! We prefer staying at the Grand Californian Resort because it is right next to California Adventure and has a private entrance. This makes it so convenient! The Grand Californian has a nice pool complex, bar area, and fine dining. It gives an upscale escape from all the excitement of the parks! Additionally, it’s just a short walk to Disneyland – so you can leave your car behind and get to the fun part faster! To read about our two-day Disneyland itinerary, click here.
