Maui’s gorgeous beaches, heavenly weather, and breathtaking sunsets make this destination and Honua Kai Resort easy to love, and hard to leave. Even though we’ve already been several times, we’re always blown away by our time on the island. We’re already thinking about when we can go back! Whether your family wants to relax on the beach or dive into new adventures, Maui has it all. It’s truly one of the best locations for an unforgettable family vacay.
Honua Kai Resort & Spa
Gentle waves, soft sand, calm waters for snorkeling and swimming, and restaurants make Kā‘anapali Beach an ideal location for families. There are many hotels and condos to select from; however, we have stayed the last two times at the Honua Kai Resort & Spa. The beach here is perfection and it is within walking distance of other resorts, restaurants, and shops. We have traveled with friends each time, and everyone is always so happy with this location. It’s an ideal spot for families and groups.
Honua Kai is a condo-style resort that sits on 38 acres of beachfront property, offering luxury studios and one, two, and three-bedroom suites. The resort touts four pools, a full-service concierge, two restaurants, and a spa. The property balances the luxury amenities of a traditional resort while providing families the convenience of a vacation rental with a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, patios, and washer and dryer in each unit. Rooms can be booked directly through the resort or on vacation rental sites. We have chosen to rent through VRBO and a local travel site where you can view the exact lodging information provided by the owner. Each time the owners have provided sand toys, beach chairs, coolers, and other beach gear to use while there.
When you are done with the saltwater and are ready to relax with poolside service the 3-acre aquatic area at Honua Kai is perfect! It has a waterslide, waterfall, hot tubs, cabana rentals, and delicious food and drinks provided by Duke’s. Find a spot, and you can easily spend all day soaking in the Hawaiian sun and cooling off in the pools.
Dining at Honua Kai
If you don’t want to cook all meals in your fully stocked kitchen, then there are plenty of dining options in the area. Duke’s is the onsite restaurant and also a very popular spot. They provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and poolside service at their beachfront location. The view from the restaurant is great and they even have drinks in real coconuts – which of course we had to get! It’s a bonus that this famous spot is located on the Honua Kai property.
If you’re looking for convenient and fast options, the resort also has Aina Gourmet Market — coffee, snacks, and deli options to-go — and Whaler’s General Store for all your vacation necessities. There was always a line in the evening for ice cream.
We always make sure to have dinner at Hula Grill, and it’s become somewhat of a tradition. Ask for a table at the Barefoot Bar to enjoy the sand in your toes, live music, and sunset views. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll even see whales from the distance. The food is great, but we love the views, seeing all the people, and listening to the live music, which is often accompanied by hula dancers.
If your family has older kids, and they are looking for some adventure then consider surf lessons or paddleboarding (available right on Kā‘anapali Beach), or the Road to Hana if you want a full-day excursion.
As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions about the destinations posted. I am happy to provide additional information to help make your family vacay as wonderful as possible. Interested in visiting another island? Then you should read this post about Kauai Vacation Resorts.
