We recently visited Hotel 43 in Boise, Idaho for a pup-cation with our dog, Cooper. It was the perfect spot to celebrate Cooper’s first birthday and give us an excuse for a getaway. The hotel is incredibly dog friendly. The staff was so welcoming to our pup, and there was even a welcome sign and bags of treats — and poop bags — for all the dogs checking in that day. Cooper’s tail didn’t stop wagging from the moment we stepped inside the lobby.
Dog-friendly Rooms
To bring a pet, there is a $75, and non-refundable fee. Make sure to call in advance to ensure you receive a dog-friendly room. Hotel staff will have everything set up for smooth, fun arrival for your pup. To leave your pup alone in the room, hotel policy requires the dog to be crated. We travel with a collapsible dog crate, which is lightweight, but very large and comfortable for our Pitbull mix.
The dog-friendly rooms are located on the second floor. The rooms are clean and perfectly sized to accommodate a pup. During our recent birthday pup-cation, our room also smelled fresh — which isn’t always the case in a room that is frequented by pups.
The beds are incredibly comfortable for humans, and they provide a super plush dog bed for furry friends. Additionally, the hotel provides a food and water bowl with a bottle of water, which is so convenient. It’s nice to walk into a room that’s already set up and ready for a pup, and you don’t have to worry about packing things like water bowls and poop bags! Cooper was happy at this hotel, especially when he got to the room and saw a treat in his bowl, and the comfy bed.
The rooms are neutral, with orange and red accents that complement the artwork. There are also fun, Idaho-designed pillows that make the décor feel unique to Boise. This hotel is truly one of a kind.
There are several grassy areas just outside the hotel for potty breaks. Plus, the city’s Greenbelt is just a few blocks away from the hotel. It’s a great network of pathways that meander through Boise State University’s campus and along the Boise River, among tons of other sights. This is such a great spot to visit with your dog!
About Hotel 43
This boutique hotel is in the heart of downtown, surrounded by beautiful trees and landscaping, and is walkable to many restaurants, shops, and activities. As Boise is such a dog-friendly city, you’ll also find plenty of activities perfect for your pup. The hotel is centrally located for activities such as hiking, playing in parks, swimming, and much more. During the summer months, there are plenty of dog-friendly patios as well.
The hotel doesn’t skimp on amenities for humans either. The décor is gorgeous, adorned with tons of local art and eclectic design. We loved just walking around the lobby and hallways just to take in the art.
The hotel offers valet parking, which is such a bonus in a downtown hotel. And there is a small, but nice onsite gym. It’s these little perks that make such a difference at hotels.
Even the name is another interesting aspect of the hotel. Boise lies on the 43rd parallel, and Idaho became the 43rd state in 1980.
Dining at Hotel 43
Café Metro, the onsite coffee shop, is perfect for your morning caffeine fix and delicious pastries. I always must try an almond milk vanilla latte, and I will say the one here was fantastic.
Then for dinner is Chandlers Steakhouse, which is connected to Hotel 43. Chandlers is one of the most upscale restaurants in Boise, and home to the “10-minute Martini,” which is my favorite cocktail. When visiting Boise, you need to visit Chandlers for a great dinner, cocktails, and live jazz. So, ditch the pup for the evening and enjoy some human-only time at this spot.
Want to enjoy downtown without a car? Well, you’re in luck – Hotel 43 has cruiser bikes available for guest use. This is a great way to tour the city.
Boise is full of great local restaurants, wineries, and breweries, and many of them are close to Hotel 43. To read about other dog-friendly hotels and restaurants in Boise, click here.
