We can be a difficult family to please when it comes to dining. We not only have to find restaurants with menus that appeal to kids and adults, but also ones that appeal to Ben and Carter as pescatarians and me, as a vegan. Despite all of that, the Post Oak Hotel restaurants delivered incredible meals for all of us during our visit.
There’s no worry about going hungry when you’re staying at The Post Oak. We went to bed stuffed every night. In addition to 24-hour room service, there are seven restaurants on the hotel property that cover everything from wood-fired pizza to steaks, seafood to French pastries, and wine to cocktails. And, if you want an adults-only escape, there is H Bar, which is located off the lobby. We didn’t get a chance to visit, but I did peek inside, and it looked gorgeous. Next time we’ll work with the concierge to arrange childcare so my husband and I can have a night out.
The Post Oak restaurants are spread throughout the beautifully laid-out property with majestic oak trees, sidewalks, and fountains. Several of the restaurants are located adjacent to the hotel and are accessible by the gorgeous walkways.
We made it to all the restaurants, except for Mastro’s and King Ranch Texas Kitchen. Mastro’s is the hotel’s steakhouse; known not just for its steaks but also for impeccable service and live entertainment. And King Rach Texas Kitchen is known for South Texas fare with tons of tequila and whiskey offerings. We hope to check them both out next time! All the other restaurants were outstanding. We love when we can find a restaurant that is upscale but not too stuffy to accommodate kids — and the Post Oak restaurants accomplished just that. One of the restaurants even made Carter a specialty drink, in a copper mug, and an off-menu pizza, which was so appreciated and made one little boy’s night.
Willie G’s Seafood
A large display of seafood greets you the moment you enter Willie G’s Seafood. It seemed to tower over Carter when he wandered up to inspect it. He was delighted when he saw crab and shrimp. If you want a variety of incredible seafood options with a Cajun flair, then this is the perfect spot for you. The menu spans sushi, gumbo, oysters, and a wide variety of seafood dishes. Carter was happy with grilled shrimp and the sides of mac n’ cheese, and of course, French fries. They even made him a fancy Shirley Temple. The wine selection was fantastic. Ben had miso-glazed sea bass, which he noted was one of the best meals he’s had, and I had the roasted cauliflower and kale salad. Like the other restaurants on-site, the service, décor, and menus were fantastic.
Stella’s Wine Bar
This beautiful wine bar prides itself on its global wine list and world-class sommeliers. Inside there are small tables alongside a massive wine display and a perfect patio to enjoy the weather while sipping a glass of wine. This might not be the first place you think of for kids, but they were so accommodating to us! Ben and I enjoyed Marcona almonds, olives, and hummus. For Carter, they whipped up a custom flatbread and non-alcoholic drink — a fruity concoction that mimicked a Moscow Mule. He loved them both. And the wine recommendations they provided were spot-on!
Bouchée Patisserie
This is the most adorable Parisian-inspired bakery and café. The kitchen is overseen by an award-winning chef that specializes in macarons, pastries, and confections. We had stopped by after dinner one night for dessert and then decided to go back for a fancy breakfast the next morning to enjoy croissants, egg sandwiches, and the most delicious vanilla almond lattes. The macarons are displayed so beautifully, creating a rainbow of pastels, and Carter wanted to try all the flavors, including blue bubblegum and crème brulée. Bouchée Patisserie is a must-visit in Houston.
Craft F&B
This is the hotel’s casual restaurant featuring American food, local beer, and craft cocktails. You can watch your wood-fired pizzas being made while enjoying a great drink or game on television. We had dinner on their outside patio and loved having a casual evening watching all the outdoor activities around the property. Ben had a veggie burger on a pretzel bun, Carter had a cheese pizza, and I had the trash salad, which basically included all the vegetables, olives, and beans they had in the kitchen. We all loved it! The drinks were great as well. The bartender came to our table to help us decide what to get. I ultimately went with a skinny margarita and Ben had an Old Fashioned, which I ordered for round two.
Bloom & Bee
This is the hotel’s three-meal-a-day restaurant. Bloom & Bee offers everything from waffles and omelets in the morning to flatbreads and sushi for lunch and fresh seafood and pasta in the evening. The little guy and I enjoyed lunch here on their outdoor patio, which overlooks the pool. He had cheese pizza and I enjoyed a super fresh salad, which will hopefully offset the French fries and macarons I ate the day before. It is such a beautiful restaurant with bright pinks and floral patterns – I can only imagine it’s a popular spot for a bridal shower. And as with all the spots the service is so attentive!
The Post Oak Hotel restaurants all now have a special place in our hearts. We can’t wait to return! To read about our stay and experience as guests at this hotel, click here.
