We were in the last moments of the championship air hockey game. Tied 6-6, brother vs. brother with seconds ticking off. Scott faked left, faked right, and boom……goaaaaaal! Though it was only a friendly game of air hockey at Wahooz Family Fun Zone, bragging rights were on the line. My family loves making everything a competition, and Wahooz, which is only a 20-minute drive from Boise, was the perfect place to do just that.
My brothers, dad, and nieces joined my little crew for an afternoon of fun at this indoor and outdoor, action-packed destination. We raced go-Karts (my team won!), played two intense games of laser tag (my team lost, both times), bowled, and did so much more! By the end of the day, we were all sweaty, exhausted, and so happy.
Indoor Activities
There are so many great indoor activities the whole family can enjoy. Carter’s favorite is always the Frog Hopper, which drops you up and down, and the large climbing area complete with slides and ball guns that kids can shoot at adults as they enter. The adults each took a turn on the Frog Hopper to experience it and because it was part of the competition. Other activities include:
- The Twister: An amusement ride that spins around, while you’re in a cart that seats four people. And if you’re group is adventurous, you can turn your cart as well. I always happily sit this ride out as it makes me sick! As part of the competition, you got a point for riding – and even the competition couldn’t get me to try it.
- Laser tag: This is the perfect setup for families and young kids. The area isn’t huge but has an upstairs and downstairs, with plenty of things to hide behind while stalking your targets. We played twice on our last visit. Each team is identified by their colors, and it was surprising how sweaty we all were.
- Arcades: There are many things to play such as air hockey, Skee-Ball, and video games!
- Climbing wall and Obstacle Course: So much fun for adventurous kids! Adults can try too, but it was just so fun watching the little ones climb around and go down the fast, and tall slides.
- Bumper Cars: This is loud and fun!
- Lazer Maze: Have fun in this Mission Impossible Style challenge where you try to avoid the beams of light! Think Tom Cruise twisting and bending to avoid setting off a sophisticated security system – but you know you’ll make it out fine.
- Pinz Bowling: There are 16 lanes in the main area, and eight more in the Lounge Area. The bowling area is super clean and family friendly! Bowling in the main area is less than $5 per person/per game or $25/ hour. Shoe rentals are only $5 – but don’t forget your socks!
Outdoor Activities
The outside is so much fun too! You can decide to include the outdoor activities when you purchase your wristband, or purchase amusements individually. Here’s all you can do when the weather permits:
- Go-Karts: There is a large go-Kart track where the driver must be 58” tall, and the passengers must be 40” tall. Then there’s a Rookie Track for drivers 48” tall. Then for those a little more daring, there’s also a Slick Track to test your Fast and Furious skills! You can buy a wristband or purchase this activity individually. When we visited last time, this was the longest line we experienced. But was worth the wait.
- Mini-Golf: There are two courses, with meandering water throughout, and both are perfect for a family. They even have machines where you can scan your wristband or ticket to select your ball! Everyone loves the final hole, where you either get a puff of smoke to signal your “hole in one” or you are sprayed with water! I always swing, and then quickly get out of the way!
- Bumper Boats: Drive around a large pool with a waterfall and spray your water guns at those around you! This is always so fun on a hot day!
- Batting Cages: These are to the side of the outdoor area but need to be purchased separately as they aren’t included in the wristband prices.
Food at Wahooz
The food here is surprisingly good! We eat at the Z Bar & Grill, which is next to the bowling alley because it is a traditional sit-down restaurant with a full bar (yes!) It serves pizza, nachos, salads, and other American-style fares. But it’s a treat to sit down and take a break from all the running around and refuel. On our last visit with the full, extended family we just ordered a bunch of pizza, appetizers, salads, and cocktails (for the adults). The mango jalapeno margarita was delicious! The kids ate as quickly as they could so they could get back to business!
There is also another spot for pizza and fast food-type items, which is the Stargazer Grill. Here you order your food at the counter and get served quickly. Which is convenient as well!
Overall, this is a great place to spend a couple of hours with kids. They can run around and burn energy, and during the summer get out of the heat for a little while! Next door is also Roaring Springs, a water park – and something you should also consider visiting!
To get the most out of your visit, I recommend purchasing a pass, which gives you access to almost all the activities! For kids, or those under 58” it’s $42.99 / all day, or $39.99 / 4 hours. And for adults or those over 58” it is $49.99 / all day, and $39.99/ 4 hours. I always get myself a pass, because who doesn’t like to be a kid for a little while? Then you can also purchase individual tickets as well. View their website for more details and hours.
