With expansive terrain, breathtaking views of Bald Mountain, and miles of groomed trails the Sun Valley Nordic Center is the perfect destination for winter activities with your family. Sun Valley is known for its downhill slopes; however, here you can also find world-class snowshoeing and Nordic skiing with beautiful surroundings.
During the winter the Sun Valley Golf Course is converted into the Nordic Center complete with an upscale restaurant, shop, and equipment rentals. The golf course creates the perfect template for the trails which vary in distance and difficulty levels.
We visited the Nordic Center twice during our recent winter vacay. It is so easy to get to and there is plenty of parking. Day passes are only $10 for adults, and if you don’t have gear, you can rent it right there!
The snowshoe trails are clearly marked and mapped out. We selected Glenn’s Loop because it only takes about 45 minutes to complete and is perfect for kids. We were able to get a great view of the surrounding landscape, creeks, and even saw a heard of elk in the distance!
Originally, we were only planning to snowshoe, but then on our second day, we decided to try cross-country skiing. This was our first time doing this, and in the beginning, it was quite entertaining. Slowly we started to get the hang of it, and ultimately, we were so glad that we were able to experience this together as a family.
I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time! And should have asked for some suggestions on the best way to get up after falling. Carter seemed to pop right up, but Ben and I took a little longer.
Cross-country skiing is so much fun and a great workout. We can’t wait to do it again! It looks easy, but after an hour we were ready to take a break and enjoy lunch at the Sun Valley Club.
Sun Valley Club
The Sun Valley Club is beautiful! The decor and design of the overall space is classic and elegant! The restaurant has large windows with views of the trails and Bald Mountain. Even if you don’t want to partake in the snow activities, you should consider lunch here!
We all enjoyed our food and drinks while gazing out the windows. Lunch at the Sun Valley Club was the perfect ending to our outdoor adventures. Reservations are recommended, especially if you’ll be visiting on a weekend. According to Ben, the Sun Valley Club made the “hands down” best grilled cheese he’s ever had. Ingredients included gouda and gruyere cheese, avocado, sprouts, and magic!
This was a highlight of our visit to Sun Valley. If you want to learn more about other things to do at the Sun Valley Resort, then make sure to check out this post!
