In July we spent a whole day at Legoland California with friends. The kids (and parents) enjoyed all the rides and especially the Legoland Coastersaurus! Legoland is the perfect theme park for younger kids because the attractions (like the Coastersaurus) are designed for little ones with the perfect amount of thrill.
Legoland Favorites
The roller coasters were popular attractions for our group. In addition to the Coastersaurus, the Dragon was another all-star — I think we rode it four times in a row. We also tried the Technic Coaster which was the only ride that was a little too much thrill for our son who was 5 years old at the time.
Make sure you don’t miss Emmet’s Flying Adventure Ride. We didn’t know what to expect from this attraction as it was new but were surprised at how amazing it was. You are transported into the Lego Movie universe and feel like you are flying through the Lego world! In this same area of the park is Unkitty’s Disco Drop which was also a blast!
There is a whole area dedicated to Ninjago, which was our first stop. There are some of the Ninjago characters on display and of course Ninjago the Ride, which was the longest line we waited in. Other standouts during our day were the Bionicle Blaster, Deep Sea Adventure, and the Beetle Bounce.
One full day at this theme park was exactly the right amount of time for us. We arrived when the park opened and left around 7 pm when we were ready to eat room service for dinner and get off our feet! We ate lunch at the park and snacked throughout the day. There were enough food options to keep everyone satisfied and even a snack area with some vegan and healthier options which we all appreciated.
I was surprised by how much the adults enjoyed Legoland. The park is clean, walkable, and there is so much more to do beyond just the rides. There were live shows, 3D experiences, interactive areas, and incredible Lego displays throughout the park. If you’re headed to San Diego, then make sure to add Legoland to your itinerary.
When visiting San Diego, we also went to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. You can read about our San Diego weekend trip by clicking here.
Legoland Tips
- You can purchase souvenirs and have them held you for to pick up when you depart. This way you don’t miss out on something you like, or don’t want to go back for later. And then you’re also not dragging your goodies around with you all day.
- You can bring in water bottles and snacks. We just kept all our items in a small backpack that we wore all day. You can set your bags down at each ride when getting on and pick them up when you depart the attraction.
- Some of the attractions (like the 3D movies) are only offered at certain times. So, make note of when they are scheduled, so you don’t miss anything you were hoping to see.
- There is a parking fee. We purchased the VIP parking pass, which is an additional charge, but didn’t see much value in it. We arrived close to when the park opened, so the VIP parking seemed to be just a couple of rows in front of the regular parking. But maybe later in the day, its value increases.
- If you elect to stay at a Legoland Resort you do get extra perks, like an early entrance to the park. We didn’t stay at a Legoland Resort hotel but noticed many guests taking advantage of their benefits.
