Crisp ocean air, breathtaking views, lush forests, and open green space are what you’ll find at the Salishan Coastal Lodge. This is the best resort for visiting the Oregon Coast with kids. We have been to this resort three times and each time it delivers the relaxation and adventure we are seeking. There is something for the whole family here to enjoy and we always leave wanting more.
The Salishan Coastal Lodge is dog friendly but doesn’t sacrifice any upscale amenities. If you bring your pup, make sure to take them hiking, to the beach, and the outdoor dining options. Dogs truly love it here and getting to share this experience with them is so wonderful. The resort will provide you with a door tag to notify staff that there is a dog in the room when you aren’t there. *For tips on traveling with dogs, check out this post.
We have visited twice during the pandemic and the management has navigated everything so nicely. If you are wanting to ensure you have a socially distanced trip they have great takeaway food options, fast room service, and plenty of outdoor seating. Plus. the rooms are large enough to relax inside or on the balcony playing games and enjoying a glass of wine.
Because we always bring our dog, and everything we need to enjoy our favorite beach and hiking activities, we prefer driving to the Salishan. However, if air travel is your best option, then we’d recommend flying into Portland International Airport (PDX) and renting a vehicle to complete your trip. If you’re looking for an escape to the Oregon Coast, and want to enjoy a quality resort experience, then I’d recommend checking out the Salishan.
10 Things You Should Do at the Oregon Coast with Kids (and dogs)!
While staying at the Salishan there are so many activities and amenities you should take advantage of. Below are our favorites!
- Play on the beach. You can walk on a private path to the beach or drive there. Either way, the beach is minutes away. Make sure to visit the beach at sunset – you won’t regret it! For tips on what to pack for a day on the beach read this post.
- Hike the Nature Trail. The minute you step off the golf course and onto the Nature Trail you’ll be transported into a secluded lush rainforest.
- Tennis or Pickleball. Indoor courts that can be reserved by guests free of charge. They even have racquets to rent if you don’t have one.
- Golf. This course is beautiful. If you only do nine holes (usually best for little kids) then make sure to request the back nine so you have a view of the ocean.
- S’mores. Take advantage of the firepits. You can bring your own s’mores supplies or purchase them onsite.
- Treat yourself to a spa treatment.
- Eat at the Side Door Cafe. This place is minutes away from the Salishan and has a delicious menu. You can eat there or do takeout. We usually eat here several times while in town.
- Swim at the pool. Kids LOVE this pool because it’s indoor, heated, and large. There’s also a hot tub as well.
- Aerial Park. This is great for adventure-seeking families with kids 8+ years of age.
- Enjoy the resort amenities. There’s so much to do here. Make sure to enjoy a walk around the property, play some yard games, and have a drink on the patio.
